Purpose Filled Life With Connie Sokol

Aug 23, 2018

Hi everyone! This is Connie Sokol, and you're listening to Balance Redefined Radio. I've spent over 20 years teaching people how to redefine what balance really is, meaning a more purposeful and joyful life.

They’ve paid off credit cards, lost weight, organize their homes, and created a meaningful life plan and they've managed their time, changed habits and experience greater success both at work and at home.

So now I decided to take the plunge and help about 100,000 new people who want to redefine balance in their lives. People ask me all the time, “How do I go from an overwhelming and chaotic life to more purpose and organization and joy?”

That's the reason why I'm doing this podcast, to give you trusted answers and create a space where you could find balance. My name is Connie Sokol and welcome to Balance Redefined Radio…

Welcome to another podcast from Connie Sokol. It's Connie on-the-go…

Thanks for joining me today, and I am talking today about the mojo that we get from doing the things we don't want to do. Have you ever had that experience?

Well, I recently had that because for two years I have not consciously and regularly worked out.

Now you may say, “Well, so what? I have done 10! I've totally topped you.” But it wasn't that. It's that I used to exercise regularly, and I carved it out, and I made lots of time for that, and I made that happen.

I even brought my little baby and then he grew up into two, and three, and four, and I still brought him to my awesome Zumba class.

I love doing Zumba. It brought me stress relief. It was joyful, but the last couple of years things got really stressful. You know how they always say, “When stress comes, then start exercising or keep exercising,” but that's the first thing to fall off the wagon people...

So I kept wanting to, but I wanted sleep more. And that’s the truth…

So what was it that suddenly shifted things?...

Well, I’ll tell you. I had a conversation with a friend, and I was doing so good on this eating plan, and I had been so careful. It's the same plan I've lost 30 pounds on, and I just wanted to lose just a little bit more as a buffer.

I was being super good for two and a half, almost three weeks, and nothing was budging. And then she said these magical words...

She said, “Connie, Give your body what it needs, and then it will let go.” And I went, “You're right.” I subscribed to that. How could I have forgotten? I teach that…

And so right then and there I ate a yummy homemade egg mcmuffin while I was talking to her within thin, you know, a little bun. I ate it with the half thing, you know, and I did one egg and a little bit of ham and did the cheese, but it was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten.

That opened the door for me…

Surprisingly, the next morning I started thinking about exercising. Isn't that crazy? Because suddenly I had an infusion of energy, and then I went to my daughter's dance competition, and I desire to dance so badly. It brought up all those feelings of my desire to dance from years ago.

It was shocking, particularly Latin dancing. I thought, “I think my body's telling me it wants to go back to Zumba,” but my schedule is different now. Then I thought, “How am I going to work this?” Two days later, I remembered from the recesses of my brain that I had ordered the Zumba CD’s from who-knows-when dusty.

I dusted those off and said, “Well, let's give it a whirl!”

It has now been two weeks, and I have done Zumba everyday but Sunday and Saturday.

It has been fantastic, and I love it! I'm feeling so energized...

I'm losing weight, and I'm eating good, and I am loving life. Got lots of good juicy energy.

So what's the takeaway here? Do the thing you don't want to do. Do the exercise thing. Open your mind to it, and give your body what it needs. And when you do that, your body will thank you. It will let go of what it doesn't need, and it will require what it does.

And if you listen, it will respond. So that's my thought for you today. Give it what it needs. And that's the Connie on-the-go thought today. So remember you got this with Back to Basics...
